Texture of Silence
with Nyata Collective
A workshop created together by the Nyata Collective and the Pulp Collective. This workshop explores censorship as an embodied everyday experience, as it materializes through textiles. We seek to engage with textiles as not solely aesthetic objects but as sites where censored voices, power relations and acts of resistance become tangible and manifest. We look at censorship as it is carried on our bodies through the clothes we wear, the textures we seek or avoid, and how we engage with the material world. We reflect on the parts of our identity that we hide in our daily lives in order to feel safe.
The workshop engages with the questions:
What does silence preserve in the material world, and how do textures, fabrics and clothes register, carry, or embody what is unspoken? How do the textures of textiles feel on our bodies? What stories are they telling?
